WebCT How To

Miscellaneous

The following are issues that were not previously mentioned. If you have a question and cannot find the answer here, email me at jacquelynfisher@gmail.com.

+ Modify layout
+ Modify/Add hit counter
+ Add/Edit upper textblock
+ Add/Edit lower textblock

This is the very first option under the Customize drop-down menu. Seen here.

If you select this option, your screen will automatically change. All student homepages are automatically set on the One column option.

I have not yet been able to make the homepage convert to the Two column option. If you do manage to make this option work, please email me at jacquelynfisher@gmail.com with how you did it and a screenshot of your student homepage.

(To make a screen shot: press the "PrtSc/Sys Req" button on the top of your keyboard and then open Microsoft Paint to save the picture. Send as an attachment.)

One very awesome option on WebCT's student homepages is having a site counter, which counts how many times your site is visited (by you or your classmates). Lets see how it is done.

1. First, select the Modify/Add hit counter option from the drop-down menu.

2. Now your screen shows you a few options.

You currently have no counter, so press the [Configure] button.

3. You have a new screen with many different counters you can choose from.

4. Choose a counter style that you like best. I chose this one for the example. Now you need to decide how many digits you want the counter to show. I prefer 5 digits.

5. You can also put any text you want before and/or after your counter! Then press the [Update] button.

6. You return to a familiar screen, and now it displays your counter. If you want to change it, pressed the [Configure] button, but if you like it you have 2 options: To have the counter at the TOP of your page or at the BOTTOM. I like to have mine at the bottom... just a personal preferance ...but for this example, I will place the counter at the TOP.

Now your student homepage looks like this.

To find out how to change the text color so it is readable against your chosen background, go to Colors under HTML Help.

It is here in the "Textblock" that you can write the content for your Art Gallery or Student Blog. It can be a paragraph about you, or a summary of a book, or a comment on something you found interesting.

There are 2 textblocks: an Upper Textblock and a Lower Textblock. The only different between the two is this. The Upper Textblock will make your content appear above any links you may have.

1. Select Edit/Add Lower Textblock from the drop-down menu.

2. Now you have a very plain screen with a box. It is inside this box that you will write the content for your Art Gallery or Student Blog.

3. For the sake of being brief, I will write the following.
